I am a Photographer and Art Director currently living in London. I hold a MA in Photography (UK) and BS in Advertising (USA). My background as an Art Director, combined with a lifelong fascination with exploring urban streets has come together in a personal style that could be broadly categorized as observational street photography.
A native of Pennsylvania, I moved to NYC and Boston to study Fine Art, then went on to a long career at major advertising agencies in the US and UK. In advertising, the function of photography is to shorthand a concept. As a result, my photographs instinctively incorporate an “actionable” message, which is often conveyed in a humorous and sympathetic way.
Taken with an iPhone and Canon dSLR, these images are spontaneous and discovered, yet the compositional choices of a graphic designer are evident: Repeat patterns, strong, punctuating color and typographical details symmetrically arranged within the frame.
I have recently taken a strong interest in the refugee crisis plaguing Europe and am using my skills as an Art Director and Photographer to help highlight the situation.
